Early Covenants

Below are some examples of the earliest covenants in the Bible, their backgrounds and their meanings, most of which will be covered in first and second meetings of our OLLI study of covenants.

•There are several covenants in the Bible, but five covenants are crucial for understanding the story of the Bible and God’s redemptive plan¹². These are:

•The Noahic Covenant

•The Abrahamic Covenant

•The Mosaic Covenant

•The Davidic Covenant

•The New Covenant

•The Hebrew Bible also makes reference to a number of covenants with God, including the Noahic Covenant, as well as a number of more specific covenants with Abraham, the whole Israelite people, the Israelite priesthood, and the Davidic lineage of kings³.
